The project\u00a0Butterfly Effect<\/strong>, funded\u00a0from the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation<\/strong>, including Gay Center with toll-free number\u00a0Gay Help Line 800 713 713<\/strong>\u00a0is a partner, in the 2023\/2024 school year, conducted workshops against homophobic and transphobic bullying in high schools and youth centers, involving a sample of 220 boys and girls between the ages of 13 and 19. The complete data will be presented\u00a0Today at 5:30 PM at Via Galvani 51 F, Rome<\/strong> highlight the urgent need for systemic intervention in Italian schools<\/p>\n

In Italy, students who received\u00a0insults or threats<\/strong>\u00a0\u00e8\u00a0moved from 46% to 68% (EU-LGBTQI+ report data)<\/strong>, in our research the\u00a035% of LGBT+ students declare having suffered discrimination and 1 in 4 episodes of bullying, even physical (source EU LGBT+)<\/strong>, which almost entirely occur towards students who have declared themselves.<\/p>\n

The\u00a026% of victims of homophobic bullying and domestic violence\u00a0<\/strong>develops self-injurious behaviors, and the\u00a015% exhibits suicidal thoughts.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

9.1% of students believe that being lesbian, bisexual or gay is a perversion or illness while 16.5% believes it is \u201ca choice\u201d, thus showing that\u00a025.6% of students have strong prejudices towards lesbian and gay people\u00a0<\/strong>since it's even worse for trans people.<\/p>\n

Despite the vast majority declaring for the\u00a078% is in favor of training<\/strong>\u00a0against discrimination against LGBT+ people\u00a065% declares that these topics are never discussed in his school,\u00a0<\/strong>the figure increases if we move to the provinces.<\/p>\n

In Italy on approximately\u00a03,000 high schools and professional schools only 348, that is only 11%<\/strong>\u00a0have inclusive programs for trans and LGBT+ people (such as career alias)<\/p>\n

We therefore ask institutions to invest in mandatory training courses against discrimination.<\/p>\n
