Through comic, dramatic, and grotesque events, set to the sound of ballet and popular songs, the story of Domenico, a fisherman, unfolds, culminating in 1939. He is deported for refusing to give the fascist salute to the mayor of Bari. He is unjustly deported to San Domino, an island in Puglia commissioned by the Duce, where Italian homosexuals are confined. That year, Domenico's experiences intertwine with those of Aldo Moro, who is hired at the University of Bari, and Batman, the American comic book that will soon sweep the world. Deported to the island, he forms friendships with other Italians, all gay, from various regions of Italy, navigating the regional dialects. An ironic and unique look at Italy at that time through many characters who interpret unique life circumstances. In the camp, between theater rehearsals, the arrival of new deportees, and various stories, Domenico's story unfolds, a mixture of drama and comedy. He will overcome all the circumstances that life in a prison camp entails, amid laughter, song, and rape. Hastily, just days before the declaration of war, the homosexual camp, thanks to Duce's general, Bocchini, is evacuated. Domenico will remain alone on the island for a few days, then return to the city. Here, before being deported, he had a romantic relationship with Lucia. He will never find her again. Lucia, originally from the Veneto, had sailed to America, having heard nothing from him, with a newborn baby in her arms. Domenico will remain alone, gazing at the sea for a while, before ending up in a retirement home, where he will end his days. Perhaps he will go mad hearing on the fledgling Italian television that the commander of his prison camp was being awarded an honor by the President of the Italian Republic for his services. A fresco of Italy, the Italy of always.
