NETWORK REFUGE LGBT+

The network of LGBT+ Refuge, from the 2016 to date has welcomed hundreds of LGBT+ youth in difficulty, having been kicked out or run away from home because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. The network is made up of: LGBT Refuge (since 2016), which welcomes LGBT+ people, young people, including minors, Refuge T* (from 2021 to 2024), welcomed trans people up to 40 years of age, and Refuge Co-Housing LGBT+ (since 2024), the first structure seized from the mafia has become a co-housing facility for LGBT+ people who are victims of violence and discrimination and/or migrants, for the first time in the historic center of Rome.

Gay Help Line – 800 713 713, a national toll-free number against homolesbobiatransphobia and a service for LGBT Refugees, has focused its latest commercial on domestic violence against LGBT people.

LGBT+ Refuge Network services are available to people aged 16 and over.

The homes are managed by qualified staff, provide free assistance to guests, integrating their own services with those offered by the local area, and establish agreements to facilitate professional reintegration. .

The LGBT+ Refuge Network offers its guests:

  • psychological support, aimed at overcoming discomfort for a peaceful family and social reintegration
  • legal support, to protect the rights of the guest
  • school orientation, to improve and support integration into the school and university curriculum
  • career guidance, to facilitate the career path or introduction to the world of work
  • mediation with social services, to facilitate the use and access to social services
  • cultural mediation, to support and improve inclusion in the social context
  • family mediation, aimed at improving family relationships

The project LGBT Refuge was born from an idea of Gay Center / Gay Help Line In the 2007, during the European meeting of the anti-homophobia hotlines in Paris, through the meeting with the’French association Le Refuge, which for many years has managed family homes for LGBT youth who have been victims of discrimination. In 2012, Gay Center obtained a building to design the family home. On July 13, 2016, the project finally began. To date, the project is supported by donations and has the support of UNAR, Lazio Region, Municipality of Rome, Project supported by 8×1000 funds from the Italian Buddhist Institute Soka Gakkai, Waldensian Church, Municipality 1 of Rome and donations from companies (Tiger, Ferrarelle, Feger) and Private individuals.
