Homophobic attack in East Rome: Gay Center calls for an urgent meeting and a binding anti-discrimination policy.

Aggressione omofoba a Roma Est: Gay Center chiede un incontro urgente e una policy antidiscriminazione vincolante

We learned from the press that on July 18, a 23-year-old man was insulted, threatened, and even assaulted by two security guards on duty at the Roma Est shopping center.

Gay Center expresses outrage and asks an urgent meeting with management of the center to define immediate measures e a clear and binding anti-discrimination policy by the end of August.

In particular we ask:

  • suspension and disciplinary measures towards those responsible for the attack;
  • adoption of an anti-discrimination code of conduct extended to all staff and external suppliers;
  • Mandatory training on the rights and respect of LGBTQ+ people for security and staff in contact with the public;
  • a rapid reporting and intake channel of episodes of discrimination and violence.

Anyone who enters a public place must feel safe. Homophobia has no place, especially among those responsible for security.
