ROME MUNICIPALITY FAILS TO TRANSCRIBE BIRTH CERTIFICATE FOR CHILD WITH TWO MOTHERS: WE ASK FOR CLARIFICATION

COMUNE DI ROMA NON TRASCRIVE ATTO DI NASCITA BAMBINO CON DUE MAMME: CHIEDIAMO CHIARIMENTO

The associations promoting the Pact Against Homotransphobia for the city of Rome (Arcigay Roma / Gay Center / Differenza Lesbica), already signed by all municipal presidents except the VI district, have learned of the news of a couple of mothers who were denied the registration of their child's birth certificate, as stated by their lawyer.

The certificate had already been issued in France, where the family is regularly recognized and registered. The municipality of Rome had always transcribed the birth certificates of two mothers, and therefore we urgently request clarification from the municipal administration and the relevant municipality, noting that 14 out of 15 municipalities have committed to overcoming bureaucratic obstacles for same-sex families by signing our pact against homotransphobia.

We reiterate the urgent need for a national law to recognize the birthright of all families, regardless of any precarious administrative procedures, and we request immediate clarification from the City of Rome regarding what happened.
