Fifteen signatures, one for each municipality, have been received from candidates for the presidency of Rome's municipalities in support of the pact against homotransphobia proposed by the associations Arcigay Roma, Azione Trans, Differenza Lesbica Roma, and Gay Center / Gay Help Line.
This is an important signal for the future of Rome, a city that can be seriously committed to combating discrimination against LGBT+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) people.
Candidates formally commit to vigorously combating such discrimination, starting with their commitment to exploring alternative solutions to the father/mother circular imposed by Salvini, which discriminates against children with two mothers or two fathers, making any administrative procedure related to parental recognition impossible. Central to this commitment is the willingness and recognition of the urgent need for training public sector personnel on LGBT+ issues, especially in the social and service sectors, as well as in the reception of victims of homotransphobia.
A commitment to recognizing good communication practices and supporting services like the Gay Help Line, an OSCE source for hate crimes, and Refuge LGBT, the first family home for victims of homophobia and transphobia in the family.
We hope this commitment will also be endorsed by the mayoral candidate and all the candidates facing the runoff elections next Sunday and Monday. Rome needs concrete guarantees against discrimination against LGBT+ people, and it has never seen such unity of purpose before.
