Today we presented the "LGBT Refuge" project, the first family home in Italy for victims of homophobia, inaugurated in 2016, in the presence of Trianda Loukarelis, Director of UNAR – National Office Against Racial Discrimination of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers; Michela Cicculli, Delegate for the Mayor of Rome and President of the Equal Opportunities Commission; Monica Lucarelli, Councilor for Equal Opportunities of the Municipality of Rome; Amedeo Ciacchieri, President of the VIII Municipality; and Gianluca Lanzi, President of the XI Municipality, a project partner together with the Lazio Region.
From today, the Refuge LGBT facility, together with the Gay Help Line service, joins the network of "Centers against discrimination and Shelters", supported by the national fund entrusted to UNAR which for the first time in Italy allows for the provision of structural support to LGBT+ victims of discrimination, born precisely from the Gay Center proposal, then approved in 2020 thanks to the commitment of Senator Alessandra Maiorino.
