“Following the general election, one fact is worth highlighting. Political shortsightedness has handed parliament over to the most conservative forces, despite the fact that the majority of the country actually voted for progressive forces. All things considered, for the first time in Italy, more than 50% of the electorate favored parties whose platforms included consideration for LGBT+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) people and related anti-discrimination policies. If we then analyze the data on equal marriage, we find a historic finding: the percentage of preferences expressed is over 42%. We will work to ensure that parliament cannot ignore this objective fact. Beyond an electoral law that doesn't reflect the country's true vote and failed coalition strategies among progressive forces, the country has expressed itself differently from conservative forces, and this must be recognized.”
