“Just a month after the disclosure of off-air footage showing the TV host, journalist and author Andrea Giambruno using sexist language towards his colleagues, we are witnessing the violent behind-the-scenes action with Michele Guardì as the protagonist” continues the president of Arcigay Rome Rachele Giuliano: “Homophobia, transphobia, and misogynism still find their way into the workplace today: a complaint that takes so long to arrive clearly highlights the effects that mobbing and sexism have on people.
The threats we hear at the end of the service are an example for all of us of the fear and difficulty that often lead to choosing silence. This is why we, in collaboration with Gay Help Line, offer support to the person involved and to anyone who finds themselves in similar situations.
“Hate speech is based on a sexist, misogynistic and homotransphobic culture that should not be tolerated anywhere” adds Alessandra Rossi, coordinator of Gay Help Line 800 713 713, a hotline against homotransphobia. "It's concerning that this is permitted to those in positions of responsibility, including cultural and social ones, perhaps precisely because of their position of power. It's concerning that it has a bullying and intimidating effect on people in the workplace, and that these behaviors have been enacted to legitimize the undermining and sexualization of women, as well as the stigmatization of homosexual people.
As Gay Help Line, a support service for victims of homo-lesbian-transphobia, we believe it is essential to take action to penalize these behaviors, affirming the principle of respecting identities in the workplace, so that hate speech does not lead to an escalation that undermines protection from discrimination and violence.”
