FIRST UKRAINIAN LGBT+ BOY WELCOMED IN ITALY BY LGBT REFUGE FAMILY HOME

PRIMO RAGAZZO LGBT+ UCRAINO ACCOLTO IN ITALIA DA CASA FAMIGLIA REFUGE LGBT

Today, Gay Center received the first request for support and shelter from a young Ukrainian LGBT+ man in Italy. We offered him the services of Gay Help Line 800 713 713, a national toll-free number against homophobia and transphobia, and Refuge LGBT, the first family home in Italy for young LGBT+ victims of discrimination. This morning, the young man met with Nicola Zingaretti, President of the Lazio Region, who assured us of his full support.

“"Thanks to President Zingaretti for his support and to UNAR, we can now also accept requests for help from Ukrainian LGBT+ people. It is essential to recognize the unique nature of these cases and the importance of dedicated services. Many Ukrainian LGBT+ people are seeking support, often withholding their orientation or gender identity out of fear. This is why we are in contact with Ukrainian associations and Italian institutions," says Pietro Turano, spokesperson for Gay Center, the association that manages the Gay Help Line and Refuge LGBT services.

The boy is a young student from Kyiv. For reports or support requests, please contact the Gay Help Line at 800.713.713.
