“"As always when rights are discussed, Gay Center is in its best interest to analyze the proposal to collect signatures for a referendum on same-sex marriage. We're already studying the issue and realize it's a complex and uphill process, but gathering the required number of signatures would already be a goal that would carry strong political weight, a powerful grassroots signal in the face of political inertia," says Pietro Turano, Gay Center spokesperson.
“"Last year, a law against homotransphobia failed to achieve its goal, and we know that won't happen in the coming months. Relaunching a fundamental battle like that for marriage, building on a result already achieved like civil unions, is certainly an interesting prospect. Meanwhile, signing the bill can undoubtedly be a way to raise the voice of a community that lacks adequate representation, a voice that cannot go unheard, regardless of whether the goal can actually be achieved through a referendum or not," concludes Turano.
