WORLD AIDS DAY – MORE THAN 651 TP3T OF THOSE TESTED HAVE HAD RISK-RELATED INTERCOURSES. DATA FROM ROME CHECKPOINT – AN HIV TESTING SERVICE SUPPORTED BY THE LAZIO REGION

WORLD AIDS DAY – PIU’ DEL 65% DEI TESTATI HA AVUTO RAPPORTI A RISCHIO. I DATI DI ROMA CHECKPOINT – SERVIZIO DI TESTING HIV SUPPORTATO DALLA REGIONE LAZIO

On the occasion of the World AIDS Day – World AIDS Day – December 1, Rome Checkpoint, screening service HIV and STI managed by Gay Center with the support of Arcigay Roma, publishes data from the HIV testing service at a specific and free check-point.

The data refers to the last year. Data analysis highlights and confirms a strong demand for these types of services in the local area, at non-hospital times and locations. To date, the few organizations present in Lazio are managed on a voluntary basis and with limited funding, as in the case of Roma Checkpoint and Latina Checkpoint.

“Thanks to the support from the Lazio Region This year too, Roma Checkpoint has managed to offer stable and long-lasting support, as a point of reference in the capital, thanks to the associations' decades-long experience Gay Center and Arcigay Rome in the prevention field. The data collected confirms the need for this free, rapid, anonymous, and non-hospital service. He declares: Pietro Turano, spokesperson for Gay Center.

“According to the Ministry of Health Italy is last in Europe, along with a few other nations, for not having sex and relationship education programs in schools: this breeds fear, stigma, and leaves room for infections rather than sexual well-being. References like Roma Checkpoint offer prevention and information to those who don't know where to find it," concludes Turano.

“The service data reveals that 77% of the tested people are male and 60% are homosexual. It is noteworthy that 25% of the people tested had never taken an HIV test: this confirms the importance of reaching a target that does not turn to hospital services. The 64% of those tested – adds Francesco Angeli, President of Arcigay Rome – prefers to be tested in a non-hospital setting, such as at the Roma Checkpoint. The 35% tested is less than 25 years old., a category particularly at risk and vulnerable due to lack of information, and increasing compared to last year. Alarmingly, more than 651 TP3T of the people tested, a growing figure, had at least one risky relationship in the space of a year.”" concludes Francesco Angeli, President of Arcigay Roma. In support of the activities of the Roma Checkpoint On December 3rd at 8pm PoppeParty, a Roman LGBT Saturday night event, together with the Ballrhome project of Gay Center, the Red Ribbon Kiki Ball. Meet at Monk's at Via Mirri, 35.
