ORDER OF JOURNALISTS: GANDOLFINI INVITED TO DEAL WITH TRANSGENDER. WE DEMAND REMOVAL.

We learn with dismay of the participation of Massimo Gandolfini, who has always expressed anti-LGBT positions, as a speaker at a course organised with the Order of Journalists for the training of journalists, entitled “Approach to the person with gender dysphoria and transgender medicine”. We ask the Order to provide explanations and remove Gandolfini from the speakers.

Gandolfini is the leader of Family Day and has expressed homophobic, transphobic, and anti-abortion positions over the years, describing homosexuality as an identity disorder that can be corrected, transgender experiences as absurd, and abortion as murder. He has fought against LGBT+ rights and same-sex families, resulting in a defamation conviction that cost him €40,000 in damages to Arcigay.

Gay Center has always denounced the inappropriateness of newspaper headlines and articles that are inaccurate and disrespectful of the identity and dignity of LGBT+ people, particularly transgender people, such as the use of incorrect pronouns or deadnaming. Gandolfini's participation in such an event seems incomprehensible and exploitative. People like Gandolfini talk about "gender ideology," but the only ideological aspect seems to be their defamatory actions against LGBT+ people. Furthermore, the transgender community's fight is characterized by overcoming a morbidly pathologizing approach, while a course intended to provide tools and information to journalists is organized on an exclusively medical level, despite the participation of individuals with anti-scientific views. Why is the Association of Journalists, in order to improve the current state of information regarding transgender people, offering training courses while inviting those who have expressed only positions contrary to those of the LGBT+ community? This is unacceptable.
